In this video, I share a planning strategy that will allow you to make the most of your planning time. Often the best way to ensure effective planning is to just keep things simple.
You see, when it comes to planning, many business owners don’t know where to start. They have competing priorities, and so much to do that the planning gets put off, or doesn’t happen at all.
That’s why a great strategy is to choose just one thing to work on this next quarter. It should be something new that you have to learn. It should be something that when it happens, it will improve your business and your life. What would allow you to enjoy your business more?
When it comes to this planning strategy, keep it high-level. You can break it down to make objectives that you can accomplish every two or three weeks, but don’t get too detailed. One important component of effective planning is to avoid making things overly complicated.
Keep it to just a few higher level tasks that need to be completed. Let’s say you want to increase profitability by 10 percent this quarter. One of your sub-strategies could be to implement a job costing system. What are the five tasks to implement job costing? They could be: review various job costing systems, select a system, train people, and implement it. Resist the urge to break those down further until you get to them.
Effective planning can save you lots of time and money by helping you focus on making positive change. Use this simple planning strategy to move forward step-by-step towards your goals this quarter. You may be surprised at what you can achieve.
